
It probably started with wearing one of his Ralph Lauren jumpers as an oversized style with skinny jeans, or a strut about in his crisp white shirt over lingerie… but then without realising you’ve moved on to having your own boyfriend fit blazer and brogue style flats are your everyday choice… against all traditions there’s all of a sudden a taste for traditional masculine tailoring and it turns out there’s no longer and unwritten rule that says you have to look ladylike.
‘Boyish’ has subtly crept up on us with brogues taking the place of ballet pumps, and chino’s and blazers becoming summer’11 staples, but up until now almost always incorporating a feminine touch in a neutral shade or with soft detail.
Well we aren’t flirting around the idea anymore, more of us are looking for exaggerated tailored structure and are, god forbid, sporting more than one menswear inspired piece at one time. Take a hint of rebellion, a sprinkle of high fashion and lashings of that ‘I wear it better than him’ confidence and we have our growing troupe of androgynously styled ladies.
Spring/Summer’11 looks from Joseph and Jaeger both featured tailored, double breast monotone jacket styles with sleek and simple silhouettes. While Paul Smith played about with splashes colour but kept the male domination feel with high-buttoned shirts and un-darted pants.
